Reflection
Working on this assignment helped me better understand how traditional games evolve when they are adapted into digital formats. By choosing chess, I realized that even though the core rules and mechanics remain the same, the way players experience the game can change significantly depending on the medium. Comparing physical chess and digital chess made me more aware of how interaction, pacing, and social presence affect gameplay, even in a turn-based strategy game.
One key insight from this exercise is that digital versions prioritize convenience and accessibility, while physical versions emphasize human connection and atmosphere. Playing chess face-to-face creates tension through silence, eye contact, and body language, whereas digital chess focuses more on speed, efficiency, and global connectivity. This helped me understand that “better” does not always mean more advanced visually or technologically, but rather how well the format supports the player’s needs and goals.
I also learned to use AI more critically during this assignment. Instead of copying responses directly, I treated AI as a support tool to help organize ideas and clarify comparisons. By revising and personalizing the outputs, I was able to maintain my own writing voice while still benefiting from structured explanations. Overall, this exercise strengthened my understanding of game remediation, player experience across dimensions, and responsible use of AI in academic work.
