Lectures

Week 3:

Mr. Kannan gave us a brief introduction to the fundamentals and requirements of our audio dubbing project. The main goal is to mix sounds in a way that complements the visuals and keeps the audience engaged.

For this project, our focus will be on speech/dialogue and sound effects, while music will not be included at this stage.

There are two main types of sound effects:

  • Hard sound effects – specific sounds that emphasize certain actions or events, such as a door creaking, glass breaking, or a gunshot.

  • Ambient effects – background sounds that help establish the environment and atmosphere, such as wind, crowd chatter, or distant traffic.

The requirements for this exercise are as follows:

  • 1 dialogue track per character (3 tracks total)

  • 4 sound effect tracks

  • 3 ambience tracks

  • Use of audio effects like Pitch Shifter to adjust voice tones to better match the characters.

Volume guidelines:

  • Dialogue: between -6dB and -12dB

  • Ambience: below -20dB

  • Hard sound effects: flexible range depending on scene needs

Instructions

Exercise 1 : Audio Dubbing
For this week we were given a task to edit and dubbing of a short scene from a movie.

The resources were given to us are the subtitles and scene with no audio.

Firstly, i recorded all the dialogue audio using my own voice while also having the scene open so i know when the timming to start and stop.

After done recoding dialogue audio, finding sound effect. i started exporing all the current element as one project in Premiere Pro.

to make it easy to organize i start by putting dialogue track first.

After done putting all of my dialogue audio now i start putting the sound effect

The sound effect i put it perfectly when there was something happen like breaking door. after done with that i just need to edit with the audio volume and adjust the pitch.

For the dialogue audio i put it at -11 db why i put it there because my voice recording was a little bit loud and too close to the mic, after putting the audio at -11db i already plan for my sound effect volume. i dont wanna make dialoge audio little to soft against sound effect, so i put my sound effect volume at -15db .

Done with the audio volume now we need to adjust for the pitch,

i dont wanna change it too high or too low so i put it at reasonable spot that put it on 2 and -2 only.

after done all of that the video have completed and here it is
