Ilustration:

Among the various themes, I chose "Renewal of Life." For this final piece, I wanted to portray how even in a dry and barren state, there is still a lingering hope for revival. The central figure in my design symbolizes a human deeply affected by environmental destruction cracked and weathered, holding sand in their hands. The sand represents time, loss, and the remnants of life slipping away. The desolate landscape, dead trees, and harsh sun reinforce the feeling of despair. Yet, within this stillness lies the message that renewal is still possible. Through this artwork, I aim to express that even after severe damage, life can begin again if we choose to nurture and value it.

My First Sketch

After a consultation with Mr. Hafiz, he suggested that I create one central character that would act as the core of the entire composition, becoming the anchor that ties everything together. He advised me to show what has happened in the background, letting the environment tell the story alongside the character. This input helped me shift my focus towards building a stronger narrative through visual contrast—highlighting the damage in the surroundings while placing the character as a symbolic figure of loss, reflection, or possible renewal. Mr. Hafiz also recommended that the final composition be in a landscape format, allowing more space to emphasize the environment and enhance the storytelling aspect of the piece.

My Second Sketch

After completing this sketch, I felt really connected to the concept and satisfied with how it visualized the theme. The emotion and symbolism felt strong, and it encouraged me to develop the final version further. I decided to move straight into Adobe Illustrator to refine and digitize the artwork while maintaining the essence and mood of the original sketch. Working digitally allowed me to enhance the composition, details, and colors in a more controlled and expressive way.

Reflection:

Creating this design was a meaningful and eye-opening experience for me. Through the theme “Renewal of Life,” I explored not only environmental issues but also the emotional and symbolic layers behind destruction and hope. The process of sketching helped me clarify the narrative I wanted to tell, and the cracked figure holding sand became a powerful visual metaphor for loss and the fragile potential for rebirth.

After receiving feedback from Mr. Hafiz, I refined my focus by emphasizing a single central character and using the background to show the consequences of environmental damage. Transitioning from the sketch to Adobe Illustrator allowed me to experiment with form, composition, and color while still staying true to the core message.

This project taught me the importance of storytelling in visual art and how every element from texture to positioning can contribute to the overall impact. I also learned how valuable feedback can be in helping push an idea further. Overall, I’m proud of how the final design turned out and how it communicates a deeper meaning through both its visuals and theme.
